Just a few minutes outside Sibiu lies the ASTRA Museum of Traditional Folk Civilization, an impressive open-air museum that showcases the diversity of Romania. It’s like stepping into a miniature version of the country, with traditional houses and structures from all its regions.
The museum is absolutely massive, so be ready for a lot of walking! Despite its size, it doesn’t feel crowded, which made it even more enjoyable for me. I could wander around at my own pace without feeling like I was being watched by strangers. 😉
Each house tells a unique story, representing different architectural styles and cultural elements from across Romania. Being naturally curious, I couldn’t resist checking out every house, both inside and out. Many of the houses were furnished with traditional furniture, herbs, tools, and other items that gave a glimpse into how Romanians lived in the past.
