Chasing Trolls: Our Visit to Thomas Dambo’s Workshop

Thomas Dambo's Workshop

This weekend, we had an epic opportunity—to step into the creative lair of our favorite artist, Thomas Dambo, aka the mastermind behind all the giant trolls we’ve been hunting across the world!

Our love for his work started back in the days of the corona lockdown when we stumbled upon his giant wooden trolls in Denmark. Those creatures became the light at the end of our quarantine tunnel, inspiring us to embark on road trips across Denmark just to visit them.

So, when I randomly saw on Facebook that there was a guided tour through his actual workshop, my excitement levels shot through the roof. I went to his website (https://shop.thomasdambo.com/), where I discovered that there were multiple tour dates in March, and immediately booked one.

And wow, was it worth it! Not only did we get a behind-the-scenes look at his new series of 12 traveling trolls, but we also got to hear the incredible stories behind their creation. Fun fact: each troll’s hair is made from a different type of wood, donated by locals who were pruning their gardens.

But the absolute highlight? Meeting Thomas himself! We managed to score an autograph and chat with the man who unknowingly created unforgettable adventures for us.

If you haven’t seen his trolls yet, don’t worry—Thomas has crafted over 170 trolls (and counting!), scattered all over the world. So, no excuses! Check the Troll Map and see if one of these giants is lurking near you.
