Recently, a coworker mentioned she was planning to attend a Pride event. For years, I have been intrigued by the images from Pride parades on social media and wanted to try capturing my own portraits. Admittedly, I’m still a bit uneasy when it comes to asking strangers to pose, but I decided to seize the opportunity and take my camera along. To my delight, the experience was nothing short of exhilarating.
People at the parade were incredibly open, practically volunteering themselves before my camera lens. The moment they spotted me aiming my camera, they effortlessly struck poses. The more photos I took, the more my confidence grew.
This was my first Pride event, and I was unsure what to expect. I was surprised by the vibrant colors and the sheer duration of the parade—it took a staggering 3.5 hours for the entire procession to pass by me. The crowd was teeming, easily numbering in the thousands, and the glitter was practically unquantifiable.
Despite my enthusiasm, I was ill-prepared for the heat. Thankfully, a kind-hearted couple standing nearby noticed my thirst and graciously offered me some water – an absolute lifesaver.
I followed the energetic parade, camera in hand, all the way to Copenhagen City Hall. Eventually, I chose to exit as the sensory overload became a bit too intense for me—both the crowd and the noise had surpassed my expectations, leaving me visually and aurally overwhelmed.
Nonetheless, the experience was incredibly fun, and I walked away with a camera roll filled with vibrant images. I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoyed capturing them!
